Big Bass Fishin

I expected Big Bass Fishin to be a throwaway tap game, and it kind of hooked me instead. The core loop is simple: pick a spot, choose your lure, cast with a flick, then wait for the tension meter to tell you something is nibbling. The moment a bass hits, you have to reel with a rhythm — pull when the line eases, hold back when it strains. Get it wrong and the fish slips off, which happens often enough to keep you focused.

What sold me was how readable everything is. The water shifts color where fish are likely hiding, and different lures behave differently depending on depth. Over an afternoon I stopped guessing and started reading the pond, which is a nice little feeling of getting better without the game shoving tutorials at me. The controls are all one-handed, so it's easy to play on a bus or in bed.

It's not a deep game, and after a while the locations start blending together. But as a relaxing thing to open for ten minutes, it does its job well. The sound design deserves a mention too — the water and reel effects are genuinely calming.
